Sewcialites 2: (Block 7)
We skipped a week because of Thanksgiving, so it’s good to be back with the next new block for the Sewcialites 2 free block of the week! Today’s pattern is Block 7 “Butterfly Garden” by Pat Sloan. (Take a look at her cute versions of the blocks here.)
Block 7: “Butterfly Garden”
This “Butterfly Garden” block is really sweet. It’s classified as “experienced” skill level by Fat Quarter Shop. I’m guessing this is for a few reasons; even though the block uses a beginner “easy corner triangle” (ECT) technique, there are a lot of pieces to keep track of. The biggest tip I have is to pay attention as you make mirrored images for the top and bottom sections. (It would be easy to mess up on the placement of the marked squares when making the ECTs.)
Fabric
The first block is mocked up in Country Rose fabric (in shops now). This is scaled to represent the 6″ finished block size. I loved being able to use a blue print for a blue sky background. There are so many color combinations that would be fabulous for this one.
The second version is mocked up in Christmas Eve fabrics (shipping May 2023). I really love the idea of a Christmas butterfly block! I love how geometric this butterfly is.
