“Flutter” Butterfly Quilt
Is there anything more magical than a butterfly emerging from its cocoon? The metamorphosis of a humble caterpillar is not only destiny, but a grand symbol of renewal and hope. As quilters, we get to witness a different kind of transformation when we gather fabric, cut it into tiny pieces, and sew it back together – creating something more beautiful than before. Get ready to stitch up a kaleidoscope of lovely little butterfly blocks ready to take flight with this new “Flutter” quilt pattern.
Pattern Tidbits
The “Flutter” butterfly block is simple and friendly to all skill levels. The block construction employs a (beginner) easy-corner triangle technique. Those butterfly blocks are alternated with a simple “filler” blocks and comes together in a snap.
“Flutter” is made in Lovestruck fabric – arriving to shops in November 2023. The pattern is available in the shop in PDF or printed booklet format. Don’t forget to save 20% this week only on these new Lovestruck patterns. (Discount automatically applied at checkout – valid through 5.13.23.)
Now this isn’t my first butterfly quilt – or even my second or third… but it seems like every couple of years, I get a hankering to stitch up butterflies. This time around, I wanted to keep the design super simplistic and clean. I got inspiration for the block from a cross-stitch design that I found – then filled in these simple little “plus” signs in between. This kind of a design really allows the fabrics to shine.

I’m absolutely giddy over this quilting. That dense, swirly goodness really brings the quilt to life. (It never ceases to amaze me how quilting can have such a big impact.) Looks like the butterflies are in motion.

September 1, 2024 at 5:42 pmIt is correct – you will just mix and match the A rectangles with B squares of a different print. Unless, of course, you would like to keep the butterflies all in the same print. (This is iterated in Step #1 of Making the Blocks – the list says to gather A rectangles of print #1 and B squares of print #2.) Hope that helps!
