Sampler Spree Quilt Along (Week 9)
Another Wednesday, another new batch of blocks for the Sampler Spree Quilt Along. I started sewing the sampler blocks into my scrappy leaf layout and couldn’t stop. Here’s a peek…
Week 9 Sampler Spree Quilt Along
Blocks #29-31
It’s a pretty cute mess, right? But before I get ahead of myself, let’s back up and check out the 3 new blocks I made for Week 9. The block patterns are available in Susan Ache’s Sampler Spree book.
- Block 97 “Depression” (page 70)
- Block 101 “Framed Ohio Star” (page 72)
- Block 102 “Boxed In” (page 73)
Fabric + Layout
- Fabric: I’m sewing with the lovely Cider fabric by BasicGrey for Moda Fabrics
- Layout: I designed a scrappy leaf layout plan found here – this is a general mockup that does not include the sampler blocks plugged in. The plan is to alternate the sampler blocks with assorted prints.
Like this! It has been pretty fun and quick to stitch together. Gotta love an easy quilt top layout!
Want to Sew Along?
It’s never too late to join! Get all the official details of the Sampler Spree Quilt Along here (including the 10-week breakdown + bonus layout options). The group will be making 10 blocks per week in a scavenger hunt style – a random block assignment from the book each week in a certain color. I’m making 3 per week instead. (The good news is you get to make your own rules!)
Just a couple more weeks left. Stay tuned for next week’s blocks – 3 in mostly the gingerbread color. What do you like most about our week 9 Sampler Spree Quilt Along? Let me know in the comments.

August 11, 2021 at 6:32 amVanessa, I just love this so much! I’m not able to quilt along right now but I am making a tabletopper using Cider mini charm packs based on your layout design. It is turning out so cute! Thank you for the inspiration!

August 11, 2021 at 7:53 amYour quilt is beautiful! I would love to hear your quilting story. I have been sewing for three and a half years now and struggle with corners, points, etc… unless I heavily starch my fabrics ahead of time. Your blocks and quilt look great and your fabric is clearly not able to stand up on its own! Is sewing and quilting something you have been doing since childhood? I would love to learn how you became a quilter and designer and also see your sewing tips and tricks. Thank you for sharing on your blog. 🙂

August 11, 2021 at 8:59 amHi Julie! You know what, my points and corners are still not perfect after all these years. I do the best I can but am not chasing perfection – sometimes that can take the fun out. I heard a rumor that the Amish say quilt imperfections remind us that only God is perfect. So I’m going with that. As to my quilting story, I did share quite a bit about it on Sherri & Chelsi’s podcast a while back, here’s the info for it!
