Sewcialites Quilt Along: Free Block of the Week (Block 3)
Time for the next block of the Sewcialites Quilt Along by Fat Quarter Shop. I’m playing catch up–keep your eye out for a new block post every day (besides the Friday new release) until I’m caught up. Block 3 is “Affection” by Brigitte Heitland of Zen Chic.

Fabric + Layout
I’m loving Brigitte’s traditional design, it was fun to play with! The secret to any block with lots of little half-square triangles like this one is to trim them. It used to be tempting for me to skip this step because of the mundanity but it is SO important. Just turn on a good podcast and get trimming!
Because my final layout will group the blocks by color, I want each one to stand out from its neighbors. This one is designated for the green pile; I used green for the biggest portion of the block before adding bits of grey to make it more interesting and scrappy. My quilt top will have 40 quilt blocks total divided into the following color groups: 10 red + 12 green + 16 grey + 2 low volume. Fabric is my Christmas Morning collection for Moda Fabrics (due to arrive to shops in July).
