Apple Dandy Quilt {featuring Fruit Loop fabric}
I’ve been so busy working on Lovestruck fabric I almost forgot about another new project I get to share with you. This is “Apple Dandy” and I’ve designed this quilt pattern featuring BasicGrey’s upcoming Fruit Loop collection for Moda Fabrics. The fabric will arrive in November, and the PDF pattern is available in the BasicGrey shop now. (Paper patterns are ordered and should arrive in a couple weeks.)
Pattern Tidbits
“Apple Dandy” is a Layer Cake pattern and is such a fun way to showcase this luscious collection. The quilt features two different apple blocks, plus a simple dashed-line block alternated in between. One apple block is a simple scrappy mix – and of course you can keep them scrappy like I did, or opt for a single-print apple. The second apple block is a cute little “cut” apple with a half-pinwheel seed detail. It was such a joy to piece!
These are such a happy batch of apples. For the “white” part of the apple, there is a really sweet tonal print in the Fruit Loop collection that adds something extra special.
Here’s a look at the quilt top overall:
Quilt Details:
- Pattern: “Apple Dandy” by Vanessa Goertzen for BasicGrey
- Fabric: Fruit Loop by BasicGrey for Moda Fabrics (arriving November 2023). Background is Grunge #30150 60 “Blue.”
- Skill Level: Intermediate
- Quilting: Kaitlyn Howell at Knot and Thread Design
- Pantograph: “Arches” by Anne Bright
I also made a lighter version! Where the blue version has a very whimsical feel, this one is light and fresh. Which one is your favorite?

May 31, 2023 at 7:02 amI adore this pattern! I’m not one to be drawn to fruity fabrics or patterns, but this is just so adorable 🥰 The dashes just make this pattern and the seed core is so ingenious. Love them both, but the blue background is a beautiful change up.

November 16, 2023 at 1:16 pmI absolutely LOVE both colors! They look so cute that I ordered a quilt kit for this pattern! 🙂 It will be my first quilt, so I’m excited and nervous at the same time… Could you please tell me what threads (weight, brand, cotton/poly, etc.) and what needles you’ve used for this project? That would help a lot! Thanks so much!!

April 20, 2024 at 2:28 amWhat if I don’t have access to the layer cake but just yardage in fruit loop. How much of diff fabric would i need to replace substitute for the layer cake.
