Pure Country Quilt
Here’s a quilt born of my love of old ranch houses, fields of green, and country ballads. Introducing the Pure Country quilt.
Fabric
This Pure Country quilt model is made in my upcoming Country Rose collection shipping to shop August 2022. It uses a variety of yardages, some fat quarters, fat eighths, and a few odds and ends. (See the full materials list for Pure Country in the pattern listing here.) It could be made even scrappier using whatever you have in your stash. I am dying to make another to match my living room in more muted colors – stay tuned for that!
Skill Level
I would consider this project to be intermediate skill level. It uses a combination of beginner techniques (easy corners + quarter-square triangle constructions) and has a lot of pieces. Some of the pieces (i.e. the ranch house windows) are small – which contributes to the intermediate categorization.
Quilt Details:
- Pattern: Pure Country by Lella Boutique
- Fabric: Country Rose by Lella Boutique for Moda Fabrics
- Pieced by Vanessa Goertzen
- Custom quilting by Natalia Bonner of Piece n Quilt
Natalia did such an incredible job on the custom quilting, no surprise there. I am in awe on how she gets her stitching to look so perfect. She is so much fun to watch – she has her PiecenQuilt YouTube channel here if you want to get mesmerized with her skills!
I don’t think I’m supposed to have favorite quilts but I do! This one has lived in my head for a long time (as a vague idea) so it’s always lovely to see an idea come to life. What do you think about Pure Country? Let me know if the comments below. Would you make something like this?

March 10, 2022 at 10:57 amAbsolutely I would love to make one of these – and I love the soft, muted colors. I can also see it in autumnal colors (which most of my house is). Beautiful!

April 13, 2022 at 4:38 pmHi Cindy!
I won’t be carrying kits but you can definitely reach out to your favorite local or online shop to request one for its arrival in August! Just off the top of my head, I’m pretty sure Tilalli (an Etsy shop) and Happy Little Stitch Shop will be carrying them and would be happy to take a preorder from you. A lot of times, the shops have appreciate your input so you could check in with any of your local shops that carry Moda.

April 13, 2023 at 6:07 pmI love this pattern and stretched myself a little and started it. About half the windows are a hot mess, but aside from that the barns are coming together nicely. I make quilts for everyone, but this one is going on MY bed! Thanks for such a lovely pattern. While not perfect, the windows look ok on the design wall if I don’t wear my glasses.😂

July 21, 2024 at 8:03 pmHi Vanessa – I am an experienced quilter and seamstress and am having trouble getting the little windows to come together nicely. Do you have any tips on putting them together? My cutting has been done accurately; if I use a scant quarter inch seam, the first pieces come out longer than the 2.25″ length to match the next piece. Would appreciate any help in this matter! Love this pattern and the Country Rose fabric line. Have had both for a while and am just now starting it. Thank you! (July 2024)
