$5 in December 2022: Diamond Dust
Time to bust out the scraps! Diamond Dust is the new $5 pattern and can be made with literally anything in your stash. Charm packs, mini charms, fat eighths, layer cakes, you name it! Here’s a look at the original made in Lollipop Garden fabric circa 2018. (I’m still obsessed with that dense baptist fan quilting Marion Bott did on it.)
Diamond Dust in Flower Pot Fabric
I recently reprinted the Diamond Dust pattern and gave it an updated look in Flower Pot fabrics. Ever since I made the original, I’ve been dreaming about a version with muted tones in my bedroom. This is the version I’ve been waiting for. (And I may actually have some time to stitch a few blocks this month!) As I mentioned earlier, you can use just about anything in your stash to make this one. Find a full materials list here.
There a couple background variations you can choose from. The version above uses a single (tonal white “Garden Dot”) print for the background. The other option is to add an accent background print to create a checkerboard effect. If you decide to go for the checkerboard layout – just keep in mind that the accent print will be on point (at an angle) when choosing your print. (Unidirectional prints may not be ideal – check for a list of the Flower Pot matching solids here.) I did actually use the unidirectional “Sprout” print in the mockup below. I love the “texture” it adds, and the unidirectional print does not personally both me.
For comparison, here’s Moda Bella Solid #9900 310 “Taupe” plugged in. Still nice, but a lot heavier than the “Sprout” print.
Diamond Dust in Christmas Eve Fabric
This design is so versatile. Another beautiful option I just have to share is Diamond Dust in Christmas Eve fabric coming May 2023. I know ya’ll are excited to be making a lot of the new Christmas quilts – Diamond Dust would be a perfect project for all of the your Christmas Eve scraps!
And again, here’s an alternate look at the quilt with a dark grey “Merry Dot” plugged in for the checkboard look. I think I just inadvertently added another “must make” to my list!
Which version is your favorite? Checkerboard or single background print? Flower Pot, Christmas Eve, or the original in Lollipop Garden? Let me know in the comments.

December 3, 2022 at 4:00 pmYou’re asking me to choose between chocolate and chocolate!??!! They are all so pretty. I bought your lollipop garden and made a quilt using that line. Loved it!! I am eagerly awaiting the Christmas Eve line (already purchased the Jolly Holiday pattern) but I think I’ll get a half yard bundle so I can do a couple quilts using Christmas Eve! Thanks so much for your beautiful patterns and fabric!!!
