Materials Needed:

• Mini charm pack (Forty-two 2.5″ squares) 

• One fat quarter neutral fabric 

• One fat quarter border fabric  

•  3/4 yard back fabric 

•  32 x 32″ batting scrap

• One fat quarter binding fabric

Cutting:

From the neutral fabric, cut eighteen 2.5 x 4.5″ blocks.

From the border fabric, cut four strips 3 x 22″.

From the binding fabric, cut five strips 2.5 x 22″. 

Instructions:

You will need 36 out of 42 of the mini charm pack squares. Arrange them in pairs and alternate with a neutral 2.5 x 4.5″ block as indicated below.

Once the blocks are all arranged to your liking, sew the blocks of the top row together using 1/4″ seam allowance. (Assume 1/4″ seam allowance unless otherwise stated.)

Press open the seams with a heated iron.

Repeat to sew the blocks of each row together. 

Next, you’ll sew all of those pretty rows together–lining up the seams and pinning in place beforehand. 

To add a border, you will need the four strips 3 x 22″ cut from the border fabric. Sew a strip to the longer sides of the quilt-top first. Trim the excess to line up with the quilt sides.

Add strips to the adjacent sides. I’ve got a crush on that pink and white houndstooth print.

After that, you will need the batting and back fabric. After starching and ironing the quilt-top and back fabric, baste all layers together using a sticky basting spray. Insert safety pins throughout to prevent the layers from shifting during quilting.

Quilt as desired. I installed my darning foot, lowered the feed dogs, and moved the quilt around to make nice squiggly lines. See my freemotion tutorial for a more comprehensive look at this step.

After quilting is completed, Trim the batting and back fabric to line up with the edge of the quilt-top.
