Modavation 2025
Got back a few weeks ago from an incredible week in Dallas for Modavation – and I’m still riding the high! If you’ve never heard of Modavation, don’t worry. It’s a retreat-style event for quilt shop owners, and it gave them a chance to visit the mothership (Moda HQ), connect with designers and sales/marketing team, and take part in all kind of classes and presentations to help inspire and support their businesses. I was there to teach a class featuring my Wild Honey collection.

I got to share a special surprise pattern called Lucky Stars – currently exclusive to the shops that attended Modavation. (If you want to snag a copy before it becomes available to the public in Feb, reach out to your local shop and see if they were in attendance!) It’s a Layer Cake quilt – with a fun charm pack variation I’ll share more about later.
I loved seeing how excited the shops were about the pattern – and we talked about different ways to play with color within the Lucky Stars quilt pattern from within the block itself – to the block arrangement into the quilt top layout. (My favorite kind of quilts are the ones where you can just play – and this one definitely fits the bill!)
The highlight of the week was definitely spending time with the shop owners. These are the folks who bring our fabric to life in communities all across the country. They host classes, offer encouragement, and help foster a love of quilting wherever they go. Getting to sit down with them – whether in class, over lunch, or walking the halls – was such a meaningful reminder of the heart behind our industry.
Moda went above and beyond to spoil us all! In addition to classes and schoolhouse-style presentations, shops got to visit the warehouse, the design studio, and even peek behind the curtain at some of the upcoming collections. I’m so grateful to Moda for creating a space where creativity, collaboration, and community could come together in such a big way. (I am SO sad I forgot to take a pic with my class on day 3.)
Of course I always love getting to spend time at Moda (can you believe it’s only my second time visiting in 10 years?!) I was so busy having fun I didn’t get nearly enough pictures in with all my people but here are a few with some of the other designers. Can’t wait to visit again!
Oh and I surprised my students with a Wild Honey sticker bundle and came home with a few extras – they’re in the shop HERE for anyone who wants to snag one.
