Charm Pack quilts Magic Dot Fabric

Persnickety Herringbone Quilt (The Blue One)

I finished binding the last of the Magic Dot quilts, and this ones giving me the blues… in the very best way, of course! It’s the “Persnickety” herringbone quilt pattern and this is an alternate color version. Really, there are so many ways to play with this pattern. I already showed the colorful Layer Cake version in a post here – and it definitely has a more scrappy, loud look to it. This “Sky” blue version uses the blue as the herringbone base, adding a “sprinkle” of color throughout from a couple charm packs to give it that knit herringbone look. Someday, I hope to stitch up a single-print version!

Pattern Tidbits

This is a pretty simple pattern and would be a great project for confident beginners. We are basically just making half-square triangles and lots of little 4-patches. Here’s an overview of the entire quilt-top layout of this herringbone quilt:

I love how the prints look solid but the varicolored dots almost make them look sparkly! It’s subtle but so much fun. What color would you use for the main color in this herringbone quilt? Let me know in the comments below.

    Hi Vanessa,
Love this quilt! I’m thinking it would be great in school colors and made for a graduation quilt. My school colors were red and white, our mascot was the Cardinal. I would do it red and white or one of Moda’s off whites and black for the small squares.
