I’ve got something special for you today. It’s my turn to share a quilt from Melissa Corry’s fabulous new book: Fast & Fun Lap Quilts (Martingale Publishing). It’s a great pattern book featuring 9 quick quilts made with Layer Cakes (10″ squares). The book is available now – check in with your favorite local or online shop to grab a copy. “Aurora” Quilt Details

The quilt I’m highlighting is called “Aurora.” I haven’t had any time to stitch it up, but I loved mocking it up in my upcoming collection, Christmas Eve (arriving May 2023). Here are a few details about this one:

Isn’t it a lovely star block?! I love Melissa’s brain. To make this quilt in Christmas Eve fabric, I’ve put together a quick list of what you would need. (Shops are still able to place orders for this collection, so you may want to reach out to your local quilt shop now – this collection WILL sell out when it arrives May 2023.)

Materials:

  • 1 Layer Cake of Christmas Eve (33 squares 10″ x 10″)
  • 4-1/8 yards white background (SKU 5187 21)
  • 5/8 yard binding fabric (SKU 5182 16)
  • 4-1/8 yards backing fabric (I’d recommend 5181 11)
  • 74″ x 74″ batting

    My hands down favorite is the quilt on the cover. I couldn’t find the name of it. I absolutely love it. I keep telling myself no more quilt books! Im way out of space! But then one comes along like this and I have to get it! A Christmas o e and a spring one I can see in my future! The Christmas fabric by Moda is wonderful- how do they keep coming out with such beautiful ideas?

    Aurora is definitely my favorite. I love the look of the stars. I think your Christmas Eve fabric and the way you have mocked it up enhance the design. It is a real art picking a pattern to highlight the fabric, or fabric to highlight a pattern.

    There are several quilts in this book that caught my eye right away. Aurora is wonderful because I love a big block and anything with a chain effect calls to me. I also am a sucker for a hugs and kisses quilt! I love all your fabric lines with your cabbage roses, and wouldn’t be sad if you did a comeback of Farmer’s Daughter and Nest! Your new Christmas Eve reminds me of Christmas Morning which I have so much of and hope the two coordinate together.

    I love Diamond Dash from the book. Churn dash blocks and stars were some of the first blocks I learned to make. Aurora is a close second, though!

    I am amazed that it just takes one layer cake to make the quilts from this book. I really like the Aurora quilt as it looks like lattice framework.     The Aurora quilt is my favorite in the book made with Christmas Eve. All the women on her blog that made the quilt block in her class made beautiful blocks but the sample quilt you made using Christmas Eve was so soothing and peaceful with the larger size blocks.

    Oh I just love Melissa – Funny story … I took a class from her for her Nordic Nights Quilt at the Lake Powell Quilt retreat last year. To make each portion of the block, I had to remember where the pieces went and they reminded me of Butts and Boobs … so that’s what I call that quilt now. Ask her about it … I’m sure she will remember! We all had a good laugh!
    Her new book looks wonderful … I love them all but if I to choose one, it would be Three In A Row … looks like it would be hugs and kisses in your Christmas Eve fabric.

    My favorite is Three in a Row. It would be beautiful in any fabric line, but your new Christmas fabric would make it gorgeous! One of my favorite things to do with my kids was to play Tic Tac Toe (mostly to keep them busy when we were sitting at a restaurant waiting our food!). Sometimes I’d let them win, but as they got older, they figured out how to beat me more often than not. I’d love to make this quilt with your new fabric and have it out during the holiday season. Who knows? Maybe a tic tac toe game will spontaneously start and maybe I’ll let them win!

    Well, it is a toss-up between Treasured and Aurora. I like to think how I would feel tucked into the quilt and how the pattern would make me feel. Those two are the most compatible with my comfort view, that is, COZY! All of the quilts are lovely.

    I think it was called treasured? It had such beautiful purple dessert color scheme and the blocks look traditional but with a bit of a twist! I can see it in so many fabric lines!
