Easter Fat Eighth quilts Love Note fabric Spring Quilts

The Tulip Shop Quilt

Who can resist a flower quilt? Here’s a sweet spring tulip quilt – freshly quilted and bound. It’s called Tulip Shop, and is a new quilt made for the Love Note fabric collection for Moda Fabrics.

Making the Tulip Shop Quilt

Tulip Shop is a fat eighth quilt pattern. It was a very quick quilt to piece – cut and sewn together in just a couple days. This tulip block is pieced traditionally with half-square triangle + easy corner triangle techniques. The block finishes at 12″ x 12″ and is then set on point (i.e. at a diagonal) with this taupe herringbone print (5154-11) as an accent. The result is this fun checkerboard design!

To finish up the top, I used one of my favorite Love Note prints – the taupe “Alcott text” print (SKU 5156-17) for a simple border.

For the backing, I used the main floral from the collection “Rose in Bloom” in the “Dove” (taupe) color.

Quilting

My friend Kaitlyn over at Knot and Thread Design quilted this using the “Interlocked Orange Peel” pantograph by Karlee Porter at Intelligent Design. It is so simple and stunning!

P.G. Wodehouse said it best: “Flowers are happy things.” This is definitely a cheerful springtime quilt.

Have you ever made a flower quilt? Let me know in the comments.

When you post a pattern, can you also show the back so I can see fabric requirements? I love this pattern and would like to plan what I will purchase when the fabric line comes out. Some places want us to put a deposit down on say, a fat quarter bundle or layer cake. I need to know ahead of time what I need to reserve. Thank you!

No, Ive not made a flower quilt before but I’d love to! Please show the back of your quilts or at least a portion of it and let us know if it’s beginner, easy, intermediate, etc sewing friendly. Would like to know how much fabrics the quilts you post on your blog will take too. This help me decide is it’s a contender. 🙂 I love the notes used as a border on this quilt!!! It totally looks like a quilt made for a picnic! I fell in love with it at the first glimpse of it! You are magical with putting these together. Thanks for another beautiful pattern.

Hi Connie, thanks for your comment. Generally, when I post about a quilt, I include links to the pattern in my shop. If you go to the pattern link, it will give you a materials list. This particular quilt uses fat eighths for the tulip and stem prints but everything else is listed out in the pattern. For this particular quilt, I used the main floral print “Rose in Bloom” in “Dove” taupe for the backing. Hope that helps! I’m so glad you like it, I’m pretty fond of it myself. 🙂
