Cutting: Reindeer Xing Quilt in Magic Dot Fabric
Here’s a little cutting cheat sheet for those of you who are making the simplified version Reindeer Xing quilt in Magic Dot fabric. In both versions, half of the trees are made in a light grey print. In the original Christmas Eve version, the other half of the trees are made with (6) assorted grey fat quarter prints. In this Magic Dot version, the other half uses a dark grey print instead. Here’s an easy materials list for the [mostly] Magic Dot version shown below:
MATERIALS NEEDED:
- 3/8 yard charcoal fabric (SKU 5230 36 “Charcoal”)
- 1-1/4 yard brown fabric (SKU 9900 194 Moda Bella solid “Sienna”)
- 4 yards dark grey fabric (SKU 5230 16 “Dove”)
- 1 yard light grey accent fabric (SKU 5230 17 “Silver”)
- 2-5/8 yards white fabric (SKU 5230 39 “Cloud”)
- 6-1/4 yards backing (I would use more SKU 5230 17 “Silver” but go with what you like)
- 3/4 yard binding fabric (SKU 5230 15 “Cherry”)
CUTTING
Referring to the Reindeer Xing pattern instructions, here are my tweaks to the cutting instructions:
- Skip Step #1 since we’re not using assorted fat quarters. Cut everything else as indicated in the patterns instructions except…
- When cutting the dark grey fabric in Step #3, add the following cuts to the list: (we’re duplicating the cutting for the light grey accent fabric in Step #2 but labeling them differently)
- (5) strips 5” x WOF. Subcut (36) “A” squares 5” x 5” (8 per strip). From the excess, cut (4) “B” squares 4-1/2” x 4-1/2”.
- (1) strip 4-1/2” x WOF. Subcut (8) “B” squares 4-1/2” x 4-1/2”. Add to the others to get (12) “B” squares total.
That’s pretty much it. Keep in mind the white background fabric and antler fabric are combined as well. Hope that helps!
