“Grand Finale” Fireworks Quilt {Navy Version}
Snap, crackle, pop! Who doesn’t love watching a sky full of fireworks on the 4th of July? The best part is always at the end, when the grand finale begins! Sit back and relax – the sky is about to bloom with big bursts of color and sparkles to dazzle all the senses. Let summer linger longer with a “Grand Finale” in quilt-form -bursting with bright stars in your favorite patriotic fabric combinations.
The Navy Version
By popular request, I’ve mocked up the “Grand Finale” firework quilt with a navy background. Fabric is my “Midnight” navy from the Magic Dot collection arriving in November.
Materials Needed
To make this navy version, I’ve put a list together. You can use this to buy what you need – or share with your favorite quilt shop to see if they can help you put a kit together. The tricky part – is the navy Magic Dot background print won’t be out until November while the rest of the materials (from Old Glory) is in shops now and already selling out. But if you can get everything else you need now, it should be easy to snag the background fabric later.
- (8) fat quarters (SKUS #5202-11, 5202-12, 5203-12, 5203-15, 5204-13, 5206-11, 5206-13, and 5206-15)
- 1 Old Glory charm pack (20 squares 5” x 5”)
- 5/8 yard sawtooth star point print (5206-11. Please note there is a similar Magic Dot coming in November, SKU #5230 37)
- 6-1/2 yards background and border fabric (Magic Dot SKU #5230 41)
- 3/4 yard binding fabric (SKU #5205-13)
- 6-1/4 yards backing fabric (whatever print you’d like, I’d opt for something dark – maybe even more navy Magic Dot). Also note you may need less fabric depending on how you piece backings… (my calculations assume 40″ WOF and even that can vary among manufacturers).
- 87” x 87” batting
Happy 4th, America!
