Miss Americana Flag Quilt (the Blue One)
She’s beauty and she’s grace… and she’s the newest patriotic quilt added to the Lella Boutique stash. Introducing the blue-background version of the “Miss Americana” flag quilt. This quilt features my upcoming Old Glory fabric collection designed for Moda Fabrics (arriving February 2024). “Miss Americana” is a simple-modern take on an American flag quilt and is made with fat quarters or a Honeybun/fat quarter combo.
Pattern Tidbits
“Miss Americana” is perfect for any quilter skill level with no tricky piecing – we’re mostly stitching skinny rectangle sets together. In fact, the most challenging part will probably be pressing the seams since the rectangles are so skinny (1-1/4″). I like using a seam roller to help press the seams flat to one side before using an iron.
Kits
Here’s a full look at the “Miss Americana” flag quilt top layout. If you’d like to check out the other background options, visit the “Miss Americana” quilt page here. I know you’re going to love making these flag blocks! Which reminds me – if you think you’d like a kit, let your favorite local or online shop know now so they can get the supplies ordered for its February arrival date. Some will even let you make a reservation! (Shops can access the materials list info through their Moda sales rep.)
Something that makes this quilt extra special is its background print – a blue/white skinny stripe from the Old Glory fabric collection (SKU #5202 11 “Urban Stripes” in Sky). It reads overall as a lighter blue but adds something extra special to the overall design. And of course, the Miss Americana pattern instructions are written to accommodate this unidirectional print so you don’t have to figure that part out.
Quilt Details
- Pattern: “Miss Americana” flag quilt by Lella Boutique

- Finished Quilt: 65″ x 72-1/2″

If you ask me, the real star is the super dense quilting that Marion is so famous for. She used bamboo blend of batting – which happens to be my all-time favorite. It’s light and soft and drapes beautifully. Perfect for those 4th of July summer quilts!

July 18, 2023 at 6:09 amI really love this pattern. The blue background is my favorite, and I like the thin stripe fabric. I appreciate that the pattern is written taking into account the directional nature of the fabric. The name of this collection, Old Glory, is perfect. I love the softer blues and the flowers. Thank you, Vanessa, for such a beautiful patriotic collection.

July 18, 2023 at 6:17 amI have always wanted to do a patriotic theme quilt but thought they were often “cheesy” looking. BUT THIS ONE is awesomely scrappy and sweet! It is now on my list. Can’t wait to dig thru my bits and pieces of reds/whites/blues!!

July 20, 2023 at 9:56 amLOVE IT! I’ve been looking for a Patriotic Quilt Pattern and this is THE ONE! Love the light blue background and your Old Glory Fabric line is perfect! Not sure where to purchase the fabric come February, but hopefully I will find it. I’m in Northern California between Oakland and Stockton if you know of any quilt shops that carry your fabric. Thank you for such a beautiful fabric line!
