Some quilts have two completely different personalities depending on the fabrics you choose.

While my original “Garden Party” quilt celebrates bright florals, I couldn’t resist making a second version that highlights the soft side of Magic Stripe. By pulling together the blues, greens, greys, and a handful of golden centers, this quilt takes on a completely different mood. It’s quieter. Restful. A fun way to use Magic Stripe.

“Garden Party” is a fat quarter quilt – but this version doubles up on many of the prints making it more of a “1/2-yard” quilt (if there is such a thing). Here’s the full materials list of what you would need to make this one:

• 1/2 yard #5231 16 (Magic Stripe in “Dove”) for a flower set x2

Pattern Tidbits

Because we are using a bidirectional print for this pattern, there are a couple little tweaks I suggest to help make sure the stripes all run a certain way. I’ve created a printable PDF here to make it easy for shops/everybody to have this guide handy. It mainly affects making the half-square triangles (HSTs) for the “Bloom blocks” shown below – to help stripes run in the same direction for the leaf/stem units within each block
