Tone it Down – Scrap Quilt
This is Olive. She is happy that her mama has finished her quilt, at last!
Ever since she was a baby, Olive always clung to her pink blankie. I mean literally. That thing even managed to sneak its way into her 2-year birthday pictures.
Back in January, after YEARS of dirt and slobber, Olive and I had a little talk about saying goodbye to dear (nasty) blankie. I told her I would make her a new one and she was very happy with this idea.
I didn’t get started on it right away, I wasn’t even sure what I wanted to make her or which fabrics to use. A few months ago, I started working on Lissa Alexander’s “Tone it Down” quilt from the February 2014 issue of American Patchwork and Quilting. I used my Into the Woods fabric collection for Moda Fabrics. Olive came in and saw me working on the first block.
“Oooooo!” she said excitedly, “my quilt!!!”
So I guess it belongs to her now.
I really had fun making this one special for her, even using some of the Into the Woods strike offs that didn’t make the final cut. One of a kind, just like my sweet girl.

October 7, 2014 at 5:27 amYou go, girl. *Adorable* child, beautiful quilt. A couple of years ago I restored the quilt I made for my son almost 35 years ago. It is machine appliqued, hand embroidered, hand quilted — the first full sized quilt I ever made. Took me 6 weeks of hand stitching to cut out worn fabrics, make new replacement applique pieces, and hand applique them into place. Then laundered it, holding my breath hoping it wouldn't disintegrate in the wash, lol. It came out beautifully, I was so pleased. It hangs in my new granddaughter's nursery now. You are making heirlooms.

October 7, 2014 at 11:32 amOh, I love your beautiful quilt! Great work for such an adorable little girl. My granddaughter, of 11, still hides a baby quilt I made for her, under her pillow. She recently made her own, with a little help from grandma, for her bed.
