I’ve been making Courthouse Steps placemats with jelly roll strips for a local hospice. They go together so easily, and I can sit and sew with friends and not make mistakes. Whoever thought up the jelly roll concept deserves some kind of major award!

Hot Cross Buns is my current favorite because I completed it in time to ‘gift’ it to my nephew who is doing two years with Americore as a Team Leader. He wanted dark colors (so he would not have to wash it very often)🙂. I am new to quilting, so it definitely challenged my skills, and the colors would not be everyone’s favorite, but the results are quite exciting. Happy Jelly Roll Day to all!

I love the look of the Chandelier quilt pattern. I have my pieces cut out and it will be my next quilt project. Although it is not necessarily a jelly roll quilt, it does use a jelly roll for the back ground. The last quilt I made using a jelly roll was Breezy Windmills.

  81. Michele R.

    September 18, 2022 at 8:37 am

A favorite quilt of mine I made from jelly rolls is the offset log cabin pattern in the colors of the Caribbean. Today, on National Jelly Roll Day, I will be putting together my Cutting Corner blocks made using Christmas fabric. A continuous project using jelly roll strips is a type of ‘leader/ender’ scrappy 16 patch. My guild had a 2.5″ strip exchange. Participants would bring in the color family of the month cut from their stash, with enough strips of the same fabric for each pile who participated. I had won neutral fabric jelly rolls, so to make the top really scrappy, I cut each strip into 10.5″ lengths and pair a colored strip with a different neutral. When I have time I cut the sewn strips into 2.5″ squares and toss them in a small bin until I have enough variety to make a four patch, repeating until I have enough variety to make a 16 patch. It’s a great stash busterl.

It’s so hard to pick a favorite. I love your designs! Love, love your fabrics too. I guess Hot Cross Buns would be one of the top. My all time favorite of your designs is figgy pudding. I love Christmas and your Christmas Morning fabric line. Just returned to quilting after a 20 year hiatus, kids and work took most of my time. I started with the Among the Stars BOM and now have the most beautiful quilt! The first of many I hope. Thank you for the beautiful inspiration.

Gotta admit, I’ve never purchased or received a jelly roll! I’m a scrappy quilter – and extremely frugal, so I have loads of scraps I’ve cut into pre-cut sizes, and use. I also teach a group of senior ladies (and yes, I’m a senior myself) at a senior center nearby and I’ve taken many of my pre-cuts there so they can learn how to make table runners. If I were to buy one though, it would be your pattern “Leaves of Change” as it’s so pretty! I would LOVE to win that book – I suspect by the time the table runners are done I will have a few who want to make another quilted project. They don’t know it, but I’m hoping to have a couple at least who want to make a quilt , too. Your book would be a lovely one to share projects from.

My favorite jelly roll patterns are the “braid” patterns, either the ones using a template or the kind in which one uses a full length of a jelly strip to create an arrow shape and attaches it to a base of fabric to create a more modern “braid”.

I’ve been wanting to make your chandelier quilt pattern. I didn’t realize chandelier 2 was with jelly roll strips. Although looking through your patterns, there are some other cute ones. I also want to make a fall quilt, so leaves of change would be perfect for that. Square dance is cute too, just so many to pick from!
